In 1965 Bill and Charlie Haymes founded Haymes Brothers, Inc. The company began as a residential sewer and septic installation contractor operating primarily in the Danville, VA area.
As the brothers' reputation for honesty and quality workmanship grew in the residential sector, opportunities to perform related commercial work developed. Soon the brothers were sub-contracting with larger construction companies to build concrete headwalls, box culverts and paved ditches.
In the early 1970's the Haymes brothers equipment fleet, expertise and manpower had grown to enable them to successfully bid and perform various site-work from grading and excavating to concrete bridge and dam construction.
In the mid 90's Bill's son Andy and Charlie's son Chuck had officially joined the company. Having been involved with the company their entire childhood both boys worked their way through the ranks, eager to continue in their father's footsteps. Andy eventually became responsible for the bridge building division and Chuck for the grading and excavating division.
In 2001 Andy and Chuck purchased the company from their fathers and the company has continued to grow and prosper. Payroll ranges from 80-120 employees, dependent on the workload.
Notable recent projects include grading and bridges on the South Hill, VA bypass, the Danville, VA bypass as well as the Amherst, VA bypass.
In addition to highway work they do private contracts as well, such as the recent 400,000 cubic yard rock and dirt site preparation for the E-Toys Distribution Center in Pittsylvania County, VA and recently completed the road into a new subdivision called Sanctuary Bay at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.
Other projects of note are the Amcor PET Packaging Plant in Wytheville, VA, The
Sam's Club in Danville, VA, Timber Ridge Phase I in Lynchburg, VA, Rocky Pen Run
Dam Foundation Excavation in Stafford, VA and the Rappahannock River Intake and
Pump Station in Stafford, VA.
Building the future from tradition of 45 years of service that is unsurpassed in the industry is the goal of Haymes Brothers, Inc. |
